North
Yorkshire Moors
The
moors, within close proximity to the cottage, offer a National
Park of outstanding beauty. The bleakness of the moors are
softened by secluded dales and provide a break in the never
ending sea of heather in late August and September. A fifth
of the park is covered by woodland, which is becoming one
of the main recreational areas of the park, with forest
drives and picnic sites. There are an abundance of pretty
secluded villages upon the moors, including Goathland, which
is were the TV fictional series Heartbeat is filmed, and
is well worth a visit. The park also boasts the North York
Moors Railway, which is a steam locomotive railway winding
its way through outstanding scenery, from Pickering to Goathland
and Gromont, and is a must for visitors to these parts.

The
coast has an abundance of different scenery from Withernsea
in the south to Whitby in the north. Bridlington is a small
seaside town with harbour and promenade, ideal for a long
stroll beside the sea, whilst Scarborough, one of England’s
oldest seaside resorts is a much larger, more vibrant place.
Whitby on the other hand is remembered for its maritime connections,
and is dominated by the cliff top ruins of Whitby Abbey. Close

Robin Hoods Bay and Runswick Bay. There are also many non-commercialised
beaches, some rocky and worth exploring, including Flamborough
